GROOMING LAUNCHES: French men’s grooming brand HORACE announce new product offerings & launch on Mr PORTER
June 16, 2020

Whilst, it's been an impossibly difficult task to edit down my top recommended beauty products of 2019, I’ve had a go. There have been countless products I’ve been using this year, some new to market, and others have been around for years. This really is an edit of what I’ve loved from the past year and intend to stick with. All of these products I recommend below have been shortlisted because of their performance & how well they have suited my needs. So here goes, in no particular order…

The Simple Cleanser- Aime Skincare £29
This is a gentle formula that glides on the skin like silk. It is a pre and probiotic based formula that is designed to gently cleanse the skin whilst balancing the skin’s microbiome. It contains White Willow Bark and toning Rose Water and smells beautiful. It comes with an organic cotton cleansing cloth and is perfect for mornings when I take a couple of minutes to massage my face with it and get the blood flowing.

Sebum Clearing Masque – Dermalogica £44.50
Originally from the brand’s MediBac range, this masque now sits in the ‘Active Clearing’ range. I've been going to Dermalogica for monthly facials for years and I regularly buy this product during my visit (there are so many fantastic products in the brand, but this would be the one I buy the most frequently) This masque performs, it does what it says on the tin. It is a soothing clay mask designed to help clear breakouts, it contains an absorbing clay to help detoxify the skin as well as salicylic acid to help with congestion. I find using this once a week helps even my skin tone, reduce pore size and speed up the drying out of blemishes.

Argentum Apothecary la potion infinie £38 / £158
For my day-to-day skin care, the face cream that has been consistently effective at keeping my skin hydrated, plump and soothed, would be this all-purpose face, neck & eye cream. This incredible and unique brand is based on the healing power of high-grade colloidal silver. (anyone who has ever used colloidal silver in treating acne or rosacea will know first- hand of its efficacy on the skin) this is definitely an investment purchase but when I first started using this regularly alongside the exquisite Savon Lune Illuminating Cleansing Bar, my skin was calmer, more even, and smoother than it had looked in years, so I’ve stuck with it, using as my day cream.

By Terry Hyaluronic Tinted Hydra-Powder £42
This is a next level, routine-changing skincare/ make-up hybrid product which came out this year and has truly transformed my beauty routine. This is a new, tinted version of the original, and much loved Hyaluronic Hydra Powder, it is infused with the skincare benefits of hyaluronic acid, it creates the perfect makeup finish. It’s the best setting powder to instantly blur minor imperfections, it minimize pores & even out skin tone, it fills in fine lines and controls shine. My shade is number 2 Apricot Light, and is a perfect match. I apply this product really sparingly after my skin care has been on for a few minutes, it can be built up in areas where you need more coverage and use more sparingly in other areas- it is truly the best in class for face powders. .

Le Labo Lip Balm £11
I've tried so many lip balms over the years but this one so far is my favourite, a combination of plant-based ingredients including olive oil and shea butter ,it goes on smoothly and helps moisturize and soften my lips. It is fragrance-free, has no petroleum and is not tested on animals. Packaging is a portable tube, elegant and everything one comes to expect from this stylish cult brand.

The next few products are what I use in the evening- they are incredible overnight healing/treatment products which I love. The first couple I only recently discovered this year.

100%Pure Prickly Pear Seed Oil – Garden of Wisdom £20
This product comes from the Victoria Health owned brand Garden of Wisdom. ( If you don’t know this brand, you need to go online and have a look at the incredible range of effective formulas at reasonable price points) Nigella Lawson harped on about how good this is in the press and since I’ve now recently been using it, I can see exactly why. It is the perfect product for me for using during these winter months, when my skin has felt particularly irritated and prone to redness. I have applied and massaged in a thin layer of this oil on the skin before going to bed, in the morning I've woken up with calm, plump & restored skin. This is a keeper, particularly until we get to Spring. A top choice if your skin suffers during the winter.

Sarah Chapman Skinesis Overnight Facial Night Elixir £54
This is a game changing product that is now never far from my reach. It is one of the most talked about and highly publicized products in the beauty press, and is known as a cult favourite among skincare insiders. So I was interested to see if it lived up to the hype. It is a serum/oil consistency with a silky texture which you apply to cleansed skin in the evening. It contains a cocktail of vitamins and peptides to brighten the skin leaving it smoother and more radiant by morning. It contains Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Abyssinian oil, Meadowfoam seed oil, Hemp seed oil and Jojoba seed oil. Trust me, this is worth the hype. You wake up with skin that looks brighter and more rested, like you are just back from a relaxing weekend in the countryside. I use this a couple of nights a week as a treat and a little goes a long way- well trying.
My next product needs no introduction and is truly one of my top 3 desert island beauty essentials....

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronised Recovery Complex £58
This was one of the first serums (possibly the first?) when it launched and is one of the most successful products of all time. Despite thousands of serums that exist today, this, by most industry insider’s accounts, is one of the very best performing serums. And with good reason- it is a phenomenal all-rounder. I've been using this product for the last 15 years and is the most product-loyal I've ever been to any one product. 'ANR' is also the product I recommend the most to friends & family. I use it almost every night of the week after cleansing skin and before bed. This is my go-to night serum and I stick with it consistently unless I'm using a retinol based night cream or an oil for specific skin concerns.

Horace Natural Deodorant £11
This is my new favourite deodorant. It is one of the brand’s best-selling products, it keeps me fresh all day long thanks to a combination of tea tree, sage, and eucalyptus essential oils is aluminium and alcohol free. This brand launched in the UK earlier this year and is a one-stop shop for affordable effective grooming products with no nasties. I've been lucky enough to get to try quite a few of the products whilst working on the launch and have fallen for their efficient performance and stylish image (not to mention their sustainable credentials, which the brand are continually improving and reviewing)

Olaplex Hair Perfector N3 £26

This is a truly excellent hair bond strengthening treatment. You apply onto towel-dried hair and leave on for a minimum of 10 minutes after which you rinse, shampoo and condition as normal. I found this product had amazing and instant results, your hair feels thicker and smoother straight after. Your hair feels so strong and smooth. I use it 1-2 times a month to boost my hair condition. Expensive but the results speak for themselves.
